The home is a sacred space where we have the opportunity to create a safe haven to enjoy the gift of family. When families are not intentional about prioritizing and protecting their well-being physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually we see strained relationships, abuse, neglect, infidelity, abuse, substance use, abandonment, incarceration, and more. It is our job to guard our homes, our hearts, and our health as we look to God in times of stress and success.
I have served as a corporate wellness strategist and coach for years working with organizations to strengthen their company’s culture and bottom line. Corporate wellness programs are designed to reach and engage individuals who need support in making lifestyle changes to support their physical and mental health as well as keep group insurance rates low. So many families have parents who are working extended hours outside the home but not all jobs provide the benefits of a holistic workplace wellness program. After 2020 we saw a huge shift where it was more common to have one or more parents working inside the home, either in a remote hired position or as a stay-at-home parent.
Parents can experience the same benefits of a workplace wellness program when they choose to adopt a similar type of leadership in their home. The first step is understanding that our beliefs, actions, and speech as the head of household have an enormous impact on the culture of our home and how our spouse and children feel and function in it. The seeds we plant at home will bear good fruit if we are intentional in how we lead by Christ’s example, provide safety and structure, steward our God-given talents, disciple our children, and encourage healthy habits.
